Savoury East African Recipes – Chicken in Sauce

Share the Story

East Africa is a region that is so rich and diverse in culture. Be it music, fashion, or food, East Africa has it. So, too, are its dishes: With rich spices, full of flavor and tantalizing aroma that go well with various meals, East African recipes reflect the richness of its culture.

I like spicy food so much that I can eat it for the entire week! Fortunately, spices that are commonly used around East Africa can be found in many places, both in fresh and in powder form. Spices that I always use when I indulge in my spicy food escapades include clove powder, cinnamon powder, ginger powder, cardamom seeds, and fresh coriander.

When all these spices are infused into a dish… well, what else can there be but a burst of aromatic flavors in your palate? And to top it off, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom can also be used in making desserts and drinks, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic.

Let me give you a glimpse of what I made with these spices: a savory chicken in a characteristic East African sauce!
